Scuba diving gear has a lot of important elements, but the
most important might be the actual breathing apparatus. Scuba
sets are either open-circuit (called “Aqualung” in
Europe) or closed and/or semi-closed circuit (referred to as “rebreather”).
Open circuit apparatus are used much more often than the rebreather
scuba diving gear. Invented by Jacques Yves Cousteau and Emile
Gagnan, the open circuit, or Aqualung, is simpler than its closed-circuit
counterpart.
Scuba diving gear has really stayed a lot the same over the years,
operating on just a few simple principles of gas mixing and buoyancy
compensation. Though without the breathing apparatus, scuba diving
wouldn’t be at all possible – for safe dive to take
place, all the gear must also be present and working in concert
with the breathing apparatus.
